For Southern Maryland Families

Humane Society of Charles County

Charles County Public Library
Offers monthly homeschool S.T.E.A.M & Book club. Check www.ccplonline.org calendar for their schedule. They offer many events throughout the week that aren't labeled "home-school" but happen during regular school hours. 

Home School Fridays. Sessions held on Fridays at 1:30 p.m.  
$7 (incl skates)

Home School League starts September 14th and meets every Wednesday for 15 wks. Get bowling, shoe rental, Club t-shirt for low weekly fee. Includes slice of pizza and beverage at the Graduation Party on the final week.

Art Smart Studios (Bryans Road)
General Art Class for Homeschoolers: Ages 5-17
Wed 1:00pm - 2:15pm- Call to schedule

Pump It Up Home School Jump (Waldorf)
Every Wednesday; 12-2 pm $5.50 per child. Please check calendar ahead, I cannot confirm for entire year. 

Sotterley House Home School Day (St. Mary's)
Happens twice a year, look for an additional date in 2017. 
September 14, 2016 - "Living on the Patuxent"
10 am - 4 pm; $5 per person.
Children under 5 FREE. One adult per family FREE.

Join Hard Bargain Farm for a day of learning and reflection–not to mention getting dirty and having fun! Different themes for each date. 
October 14, January 20th, Feb 17 (snow date), May 19th.

College of Southern Maryland Homeschool Enrollment

If younger than 16 and in a home school program: Follow the Gifted and Talented Steps to Enrollment;

If older than 16 and have earned a high school equivalency certificate or a high school equivalency diploma, you can: Register at CSM as a part-time or full-time student

If you’re older than 16 but do not have a high school equivalency certificate or diploma: Follow the Non-Graduates of High School Steps to Enrollment

Attend one of the Museum's popular Home-school Days to participate in hands-on educational programs with other home-school families! Only $10 to participate, parents are free. If wanting to explore museum after class an additional $5 is required of parent or sibling only.  

Q?rius school programs are available onsite for Grades 6-12 & Q?rius jr. for students in Grades K-8. Offering five school programs onsite on weekdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., from October through June. All students can join in on their Smithsonian Science How webcasts. 

Maryland Science Center (Baltimore)
Different sessions offered throughout the year
Homeschool Programs run from September 13 to September 30th. Home school reservations are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Registration is by phone at 410-545-5945 Monday through Friday between 10:00am and 4:00pm starting July 19.

Maryland Zoo (Baltimore)
Fall 2016 Home school classes will take place on Fridays.
Maryland home school families are eligible to register for a field trip through the Free Admission for Maryland Students program.  Registration and a minimum of two-weeks’ notice is required to participate. 

National Aquarium (Baltimore)

  • October 10 and 24: Conservation and Citizen Science
  • November 14 and 28: Life Support
  • December 5 and 19: Animal Rescue
  • January 9 and 23: Exhibits and Design
  • February 13 and 27: Animal Care
Two Mondays per month, October 2016 through February 2017:
  • Grades 6-12 meet from 10:30–11:30 a.m. 
  • Grades K–2 meet from 12:30–1:30 p.m. 
  • Grades 3-5 meet from 2:00–3:00 p.m.
Port Discovery Home School Fridays
In September, Port Discovery will host Friday afternoons with special prices dedicated to homeschoolers and afterschoolers. Prices could run from $5.00 to $10.00 per child. 

Riversdale, a National Historic Landmark, is a restored, five-part, stucco-covered brick plantation home built between 1801 and 1807.
Fridays and Sundays are tours and the educational events. Different ages for classes. Most are a $2 admission. 1 hr drive from La Plata.
